Little Cutie

Little Cutie
9x12, soft pastel

I told myself there was no way I was going to do a 31 day challenge after my marathon month of painting in December...but, I’d already sketched this one, so what the heck.  Maybe I can achieve 15 in 31. This challenge is for the full 31 days of January sponsored by Strada Easel.  Here goes.

Adrift

Adrift
9x12, soft pastel
This piece is a larger version of Morning Calm which was donated recently for a giveaway on Dailypaintworks.com.  I love this particular scene because it's just so darn peaceful!  I may paint it larger yet again. This piece will be on display at the Meadowlake Art Show on Nov. 10th in Meridian, ID.  The show will actually run for a full 30 days.  If you're in the area stop by and let me know what you think.

Girl On Fire

Girl On Fire
9x12, soft pastel

This morning I had beautiful music playing from an old CD called "Siesta"..relaxing guitar music filled the studio.  So, it was natural to select this subject for my painting.   A young girl dancing with all the attitude, poise and vitality of a professional.  I had so much fun painting her I was dancing too.  The lighting in the scene was remarkable...she actually glowed as though her skin was on fire.  Oh, to be young again!!!

Jack and Lucy

Jack and Lucy
9x12, soft pastel

This is Jack and Lucy.  Both have recently crossed over the proverbial "rainbow bridge" and are once again reunited.   I imagine they are running free on the beach together as they were on this particular day.  They hold a very special place in the heart of their human "mom".  I hope you like it Deb!

I'm always torn between painting realistically (as in photo-realism) vs a more impressionistic style ....so I end up landing somewhere in the middle.  I don't want to paint each and every detail of a subject making it look too much like a photograph but I strive to add an artistic twist to the painting.  It's an ever challenging process!

A second take on The Clearing.  This time with a bit more sunlight coming from beneath the clouds.
